Starcraft 2: Jim Raynor

My friend mgs904 made the request about a month back that I should draw Jim Raynor for the up and coming release of Starcraft 2. I think she specifically wanted him sans armor; she mentioned that she appreciated my style in reference to muscular dudes, but I got a little carried away.

This quickly became an ambitious project for me. I had this scenario in my head from the get-go, so I pooled as many pictures as I could of Jimmy, zerglings, and marine armor. The immediate problem that I ran into was that some pictures had conflicting information, especially in regards to the zergling. I opted to use CG images I captured myself and stills from the game as more "canon" that other pieces illustrated by artists. Turns out I made a good call here, because the video snippets of Kerrigan on New Gettysburg showed the same kind of zerglings that I ultimately referenced the most.

I meant to have this picture finished prior to any copies of the game being sold, but I ended up settling for having it done on the release date. I power-housed this illustration like I never have before. From the beginning of the illustration process to the end, I watched ReBoot from the middle of the series to the last episode, the DBZ abridged series from beginning to the most recent episode, and I watched the first half of the second season of Lost. It really helped to have shows in the background to help me focus on the illustration for as long as I did.
